Yu-Gi-Oh! The Falsebound Kingdom takes the iconic characters and monsters of the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe and reimagines them within a real-time tactical strategy format. The story begins when Yugi, Kaiba, and their friends test a new virtual reality game called "Kingdom," only to become trapped inside a rebellion-rigged digital world.
Players choose between two main campaigns—Yugi's story or Kaiba's story—each featuring distinct storylines, battle maps, and recruitable characters. Gameplay is divided into two distinct phases: Strategic Map Command and Real-Time Combat. On the main map, players direct squads (led by Marshals) across gridless landscapes to conquer towns, defend bases, and manage resource flow.
When opposing squads clash, the game transitions into a 3D battle sequence. Teams of up to three monsters exchange physical attacks, defense commands, and magical abilities based on turn meters and action points. Players can equip monsters with items, feed them to boost stats, and fuse specific creatures mid-battle to summon devastating beasts like the Ultimate Dragon. With over 170 monsters to collect, branching storylines, and multiple secret campaigns to unlock, it stands as one of the most distinct spin-offs on the GameCube.
